Name: Ta Nuon

Age: 41

Gender: Female

Ta Nuon means "being visionary". When she was a baby, she lived in Buon Don district. Then she was sold to Gia Lai province to carry cassava and rice crops. In 2008, she was brought back to Buon Don by Y Khu's family. Ta Nuon was a difficult elephant when she first became a member of Y Khu's family. She was fed "snacks" like gourds, pumpkins, sugar cane, and bananas in addition to bamboos.

Ta Nuon is good at memorizing directions. She once had to come home late from Buon Ma Thuot City, which is 40 km away from her village. She knew the roads so well that she walked home without being guided while her owner was dozing off on her back.

In the dry season, Y Khu's family could spend USD50-USD80 weekly to buy additional food for Ta Nuon. A banana tree costs USD2. Even at that price, Y Khu's family could not buy banana trees if people decided to save their banana gardens for their cattle.

Ta Nuon has been participating in the elephant-friendly tourism program in Yok Don National Park since March 2023. After a while of getting used to the environment, she found a new friend, H'Plo. At first, Ta Nuon and H'Plo were quite hesitant to approach and get to know each other, although they had both worked together in a tourist area before; after about 2 months, the two elephants began to get close to each other. The appearance of Ta Nuon helps H'Plo no longer be alone.
